Christmas Eve, part 2

After the busy day and the party at Dave's parents, we were glad to get home and begin our own Christmas Eve traditions. Unfortunately, Avery fell asleep on the way home and so she went straight to bed and missed out. But here are our traditions...

#1. A new tradition this year, spreading "Reindeer food" on the snow

#2. Writing letters to Santa

Paisley's translation: "Dear Santa I want to know, do you like gingerbread cookies? Love, Paisley (On the back she asked for a Nintendo DS. We told her it was a little late for asking.)

Easton's translation: "Santa, There is some reindeer food. Did Rudolph bonk his nose? __________ I want a DSi please or a DS please next year. And, a hunting game for play station. Do you have a son? ___________ How many elves do you have? ______ How old are you? ______________

(And yes, Santa answered all his questions.) :)

#3. Reading the Night Before Christmas (we have the Little Critter version)

#4. Setting out cookies and milk for Santa (I only got a picture of the remains!)

And then it was off to bed. I hope that visions of sugar plums danced in their heads!!

Christmas Eve part 1

We had a really busy Christmas Eve. I, being the procrastinator that I am, actually had a bit of last minute shopping to do that day! Crazy! So, Dave and I loaded up the kids to go brave the chaos! It wasn't too bad, though. Dave and the kids usually waited in the car while I ran in the store. A pretty good system, since we didn't have to fight for parking spots, etc.

When all of the shopping was FINALLY done for the year, we went to Dave's mom and dad's for our annual Christmas Eve party. We had a GREAT prime rib dinner that Dave's mom fixed. We were as stuffed as Thanksgiving! :)

After dinner, Dave's Uncle Dennis recited the Night Before Christmas for the whole family.

Then it was time for the little kids to open their presents. We draw names every year and so each kid gets one gift from one of their cousins. Avery got a new Cinderella dress up dress and crown. She was in heaven!

I, unfortunately, didn't get any pictures of Easton and Paisley with their gifts. They are always off and running with their cousins, so it is hard to catch a picture.

We had a great day with Dave's family, as we always do. We have great food, great conversation, and many many laughs. I look forward to Christmas Eve each year!

Christmas Eve Eve

Every year since I can remember we have had a big Christmas party with my mom's side of the family. All of her cousins and aunts and uncles come. It has become quite a large number of people now with all of the little great-grand children joining the group at a rapid pace! :) It used to be held on Christmas Eve when I was younger, but now it is on Christmas Eve Eve. :)

Dave couldn't make it this year because of work. But, the kids and I headed out for some fun. We always have a big dinner and then get a special visit from...SANTA CLAUS!!! Santa brings each child a gift and talks to them. It is just a fun time for them.

Paisley with her good buddy, my mom's brother, Blair

Avery (with her MESSY face) would NOT sit on Santa without me! Yea, I love being in pictures! :(
Now she's happy!

Christmas program

A couple weeks ago, Easton and Paisley's school held their annual Christmas singing program. Each grade from preschool to 6th sang 2 or 3 songs. It was really fun to watch. I love seeing my kids up there singing.

They had two times for the programs. Same songs, different times. So, I have some pictures of them during the 1:00 program, and some of them at the 6:30 program. I had them dress up more at the one in the evening. (I didn't dare send them in too nice of clothes to school!) Anyway, here are a few pictures from the programs:

Has you ever seen 3 cuter kids?? :)

Chocolate!!!

I am sooooo soooooo soooooo behind on my blogging. As it is for everyone, we have been super busy every day the last couple weeks. I have a lot of posts I want to do and pictures to show. Instead of making one long boring post, I am going to take the next several days to post about things one event at a time.

So here goes...

A couple weeks ago, Dave's mom and I spent the WHOLE day making goodies for friends and neighbors. We made:

Oreo Truffles
Mint oreo truffles
Chocolate chip cookie dough truffles
Cherry cordials
Peanut butter truffles
Mint-chocolate candies

It was a really fun day. And so busy! We took a break for lunch and then came right back to it. We started at about 9 a.m. and my mother-in-law left about 7 p.m.

It was crazy! Thanks Shirley, it was a great day!

Sorry that we didn't get out to everyone we had intended to with plates of goodies, but we tried! Hope those of you who got a plate enjoyed them! :) What a great way to start the holiday season!

Oh, Christmas Tree! Oh, Christmas Tree!

Oh, our Christmas dilemma! We would like to get a nice prelit artificial tree. But, they only sell them at Christmas time and this time of year we don't really have an extra $200 or more to buy a tree. I wish they would sell trees in the summer or spring, when we aren't trying to buy a bunch of gifts! :) I also hate spending like $40 on a tree at a tree lot. So, Dave's brother, Dan, and his wife, Josie, were kind enough to cut down a Christmas tree for us again this year. )See the tree they got us last year and the decorating of it, here) It is really fun to have a fresh cut tree picked out of the wilderness for us. (Thanks guys, I LOVE the tree!)

Here it is before decorations and lights...look how tall it is! I love that!

The kids had a lot of fun decorating after Dave and I put on the lights. We were a little more organized this year so that I would not have to "fix" it so much afterwards. Dave handed out the ornaments...

And, then I helped direct them onto the tree. Avery kept giving me ornaments and saying, "High, mama." So, I was more than willing to oblige and put it where I thought fit! :)

Every year since Easton's first Christmas, my mom has gotten each kid an ornament for Christmas. So, Easton now has 8 ornaments of his own, Paisley has 7, and little Avery has 2. It is so fun for them to put their "own" ornaments on the tree. They get so excited about it.

The tree looks really nice! I love it!

Okay, so a week later, the bottom couple rows are looking a little sad. Avery has messed with it a bit. So, if any of you come to our house, don't look at the bottom! :) Just kidding! It adds character to have the lights all over the place and ornaments so randomly placed, right? :)

Thanks again, Dan and Josie, for the great tree! We will have to go with you guys one of these years! :)

Softball in December?? Yep!

As anyone who knows Dave at all knows, Dave loves and lives for baseball and softball. Always has. He is like a kid in a candy store when we have had the opportunity to go to a major league game. (And there have been several, since we plan vacations around going to a MLB game! Seriously!) And, all summer, from May until October, you will find us several times a week at the softball fields watching Dave play. He loves it. He used to always play on a co-ed team. But, the past couple years he has played on a men's team. (He would have done both if I had let him, but I made him choose!) :)

Anyway, how sad are the winter months when he can not play softball! But, Wait!! He can! And, he does! He and his old co-ed team all travel the long hours to St. George, UT where they have a tournament every first weekend in December! Awesome! In the last 5 years, Dave and I have gone to St. George 4 of them for the tournament. It is so nice because we leave the kiddies at home with family and get away for the weekend alone! Nice!

Notice the beautiful red mountains in the background!

So, this last weekend we were in St. George. Their first game was 8 p.m Friday night. We went down with a couple guys from his team, so yes, I was the lone girl. But, these guys are good friends of ours, so it was fine. So, every year we think it will be warm. And every year...it is "unusually cold". The Friday night game they played in about 33 degrees or so. It was FREEZING! I felt bad for all the players. I was huddled in the dugout with my coat, blanket, hat, gloves, and propane heater! :) They won their first game easily.

Dave batting...notice the long johns under the shorts! Yep, that cold! :)

Saturday morning they started at 11 a.m. It was still in the lower 30's, so still frigid. They won their second game, in extra innings. I hate/love those nail biter games. Then they played again at 12 p.m. They played a really great team, and lost. So, then they had to play at 2, won that, and played again at 3. Unfortunately, they played a GOOD team and they lost that game and were out of the tournament. But, they figured that out of 81 teams, they finished in the top 12! They played really well together.

Dave pitched the whole tournament.

He is a really good pitcher. He would rather play short stop or outfield, but he had to pitch this tournament. He did really well. There were many pitchers at the tournament wearing face masks and helmets, for good reason. Some balls are hit right back at the pitcher and there has been serious injury resulting. Dave had several hit back at him and was able to catch most. In the last game, a big guy hit one right at him. He had to dodge it because it was coming right towards his head. He stopped it with his glove, but it knocked his glove off and hurt his fingers. Other than that, he was fine. But, it sure was scary! I keep telling him to get a face mask!!

We drove home Sunday. It was a really fun weekend. Dave plays softball with some fun people!

So fun!

The kids had a lot of fun while we were gone. Dave's mom picked them up from school and watched them Friday night until Saturday. My parents watched them from Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening. They had so much fun with their grandparents! They did crafts with grandma Pendlebury, and bowled with my parents. Thank you so much mom, dad, and Shirley! You made this trip possible, and I am so grateful for you guys taking such good care of our kids! Also, thank you, Erin, for watching Avery. I owe you so big! And, thanks, Jaimee, for watching Paisley!

I love this break in between holidays. Now back to reality! Let the Christmas madness begin!! :)
